About Hieroglyphics

The word hieroglyphic comes from the Greek ερογλυφικός ( hieroglyphics ) that mean sacred engrave OR a written text engraved ; Where the Greeks thought it was only used for inscriptions on monuments that were built to endure forever.

The basic system for writing in ancient Egypt was through the hieroglyphic signs which began to take shape around 3000 BC and reached an acceptable standard in the early First Dynasty . There are thousands of signs described by the ancient Egyptians as "the divine words .

The letters ( signs ) hieroglyphics were carved or draw on the walls of temples and tombs , the burial tools , and on the paintings of all kinds , and on pieces of jewelry , and on the false doors .

Hieroglyphic texts are concerned with all things that are meant to remain forever written ; especially religious , historical , political , and biographies texts .

And all the hieroglyphic sign represents  something realistic has a physical presence in ancient Egyptian life : such as plants , parts of the body , the geometric shapes and birds . These signs may be used to write the word , or the form ( IDEOGRAMS) or to give the pronunciation of the word , or sound ( PHONOGRAMS ).

Hieroglyphs never lost their pictorial properties , not only are associated with signs ; but included on the sets of words and combination of text and images .

The hieroglyph text can be read in two different directions , either in vertical or horizontal lines ; from right to left or vice versa , especially when the latter in achieving parity with another text ; so that both read toward the central axis of the monument. These properties never Available in HIERATIC and DEMOTIC texts .

The shortcut and ongoing hieroglyphics written in ink, usually from right to left and there are the last texts written in hieroglyphs in the PHILAE ISLAND , dating back to the fourth century AD.

Hieroglyphics were abandoned later because they were considered part of the " pagan " heritage of Egypt ; and therefore unsuitable for writing Christian texts .

And become the ancient Egyptian language after the fourth century AD , written in Greek capital ( large ) , in addition to six characters derived from demotic signs ; to compensate for phonetic values that do not exist in the Greek language .
