Unfinished Obelisk In Aswan

·         This obelisk called Unfinished Obelisk because unfinished its construction , its an obelisk made of pink granite which located at the northern of the stone quarries in Aswan and away from east of the River Nile at about 1 kilometer , where this place was intended for carving obelisks .

·         The stone quarries of ancient Egypt in Aswan extend to about 6 kilometers parallel the river Nile , and the pink granite in this area was the important stones for building pyramids in ancient Egypt , and the pink granite in this area was the important stones , where it was not exist in north Egypt .

·         It was supposed to be 41.7 meter in height , 4.2 meter in base edge and 1168 tons in weighed . If completed it would have the hugest Egyptian building in that era .

·         This obelisk carved but not cut off and not engraved on it because of the existence of some cracks in the middle appeared when creators began to carve the construction ; probably this reason which obstructed the process of cut off and carve the obelisk after carved from 3 sides in preparation to carved out of the granite bedrock .

·         Archaeologists believe that the obelisk was constructed in the era of queen Hatshepsut , and appears some signs of attempts to rescue it probably in the era of Thutmose III .

·         The purpose of building the obelisk was transported and erected in Karnak Temple at Luxor through the Nile .

·         Until now ; the most confusing thing for the archaeologists is how can the ancient Egyptian to transport those heavy stones through the Nile ??? , Especially ; some of them weighed 12 tons and more . and increase their amazement about how to transporting an obelisk weighs 1168 tons from Aswan to Luxor through the Nile for erection it in Karnak Temple .

·         The visitors can visit and see the  unfinished obelisk in an open-air museum and are officially protected by the Egyptian government as an archeological site.
